Losing weight can be a much more successful effort when you utilize resources that are available to help you. On this page, I have listed just a few of those resources that I wanted to highlight. Check back regularly, as I will update this page as I find more resources.
CONSUMER INFORMATION
- Yale University’s Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity (You can read my post on that here). – Yale’s team is hard at work via legislation, awareness, and education to improve and expose food policies, prevent and treat obesity, and educate the public.
- Weight Gain During Pregnancy – issued by the Institute of Medicine, examines how much weight you should gain during pregnancy, taking into account numerous factors that can affect your situation. While you can purchase this report, you can also download it for free on the website I gave you, as well as reading it directly from there by clicking on the applicable links (also free).
DIET
- Institute of Medicine’s Food & Nutrition Board – so you need 8 glasses of water per day? Not according to the IOM! They say you need more than that. Check them out to see their recommendations on food and nutrition.

- Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans – issued by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS). Includes physical activity guidelines for adults, adults with disabilities, people with chronic medical conditions, children and adolescents, and older adults. Also provides guidelines for exercise during pregnancy.
- Walking Works – a free program sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield that allows you to track your progress, get support, and even gives you a pedometer at a reduced price.
SUPPORT GROUPS
- Overeaters Anonymous – find healing and learn how to move forward. O.A. has helped thousands of people lose weight, gain confidence, and take control of their lives. All for free.
