Weeks have gone by since I first told you that I wanted to do Pilates. Well, I finally got to do it! And boy, were my abs sore. Even the slightest laugh was painful, and that was despite the fact that I wasn’t really impressed with the Pilates workout I did. Overall, I got to exercise three days this week. I raved about Netflix even before I knew that they had workout videos available through streaming. Now, I’m obsessed.
I love not having to leave the house to workout. I love being able to have a large selection of workouts to choose from. They all look so appealing! But, as I found out this week, just because they look appealing doesn’t mean that they are. Here is what I did this week:
Day 1 – Strength Training
Had I read the cover on this workout, I may not have done it. It says, “Standing Pilates-Inspired Moves Combined with Classic Mat Pilates.” I learned how to do Pilates on a mat. That is how I got my first-ever six pack. So when I did Crunch – Fat Burning Pilates
I was disappointed that half of it consisted of standing up. I did not feel that those exercises were near as effective as mat pilates. But I’ll tell you the truth: the mat pilates exercises that Ellen Barrett threw in there were awesome. There is just no better way to eliminate that gut than by blasting it with a good set of the hundred, criss-cross, and leg circles.
Day 2 – Cardio
I’m a dancer. So you can imagine my excitement when I saw Dance Off the Inches: Fat Burning Jam. This workout did get my heart rate up, but I felt it lacked a fun factor I would have expected in dancing. I was bored throughout the workout. Perhaps it was the dreary music. And honestly, I have burned more calories actually dancing than I did in this workout. But still, I did my cardio for the day and I was happy that I got some exercise in.
Day 3 – Yoga
As a former yoga instructor, I have heard of renowned yogi Baron Baptiste. So I jumped at the opportunity to do one of his DVD’s. The Trainer’s Edge: Long and Lean Yoga
was a challenging yoga workout! This is definitely not for a beginner, as Baron has you do some poses that require great core and upper body strength. In that sense, I thought this was great. On the other hand, he made me really uncomfortable. Throughout the entire workout, he had his hands all over the two women doing the poses. In fact, he never does a single pose himself, but instead talks you through it, while constantly putting his hands on the models legs, hips, and near their butt. Aside from being completely unnecessary, it is unprofessional and in bad taste (i.e., I doubt his wife appreciated the sleazy display of touching).
After three workouts that I was less than happy with, I was ready to head outside and run. I wanted some fresh air. I did not get around to doing it though, but I am determined to run this week! Especially since I saw two people running outside on my way to take Lennon to his summer workshop. Of course, these people had great bodies. One of them was a guy who ran shirtless and flashed his six-pack when he crossed the street. He looked like a model for Hollister. That guy was a road hazard in my opinion!
The other person I saw running was a girl that looked like she had just walked out of a Victoria’s Secret fashion show displaying the latest workout gear. Her two-piece, hot pink workout outfit was adorable, and when I saw her six-pack, I thought to myself, That is it! I am going running this week! Get ready running trails. Here I come.
