With my cold finally gone, I was motivated to get back into the swing of things and start busting out some workouts! While I had Carly down for her nap, I decided it would be the perfect opportunity to workout. My other three kids were awake, so I risked not being able to get through it all without a slew of interruptions. But my leap of faith paid off. The results couldn’t have been better.
Day 1 – Strength Training
I headed over to Netlfix to see what I could do and found one that looked promising: Self – Your Best Butt Fast!
. I loved this! It was filmed on location at a stunning beach in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Watching the gorgeous beach move in the background reminded me of when I used to live on the beach in Florida. (God knows how much I miss it!). Even better than the scenery was the workout. The entire thing is designed to work three muscles in your butt: the gluteus maximus, gluteus medius, and the gluteus minimus. If you work your gluteal muscles from a variety of different directions, you are going to start shaping it to look toned and firm. You use one set of dumbbells in this video, and some of it is really tough. I didn’t feel nearly as sore afterward as I have in the past – an indication that I am starting to build up some endurance!
The kids were curious to see what I was doing, so my boys sat on the couch to watch. My oldest, Lennon, decided he wanted to do the workout with me, and he did great for the first ten minutes. After that, he said, “This is too hard! I can’t do anymore!” That was Zach’s cue that it was time to play. Off they went to build a dog-catching machine out of legos. Those two are quite the engineers. My daughter Fabi (age 2) stayed with me the whole time, excitedly clapping her hands, swinging her arms, and bouncing like she was a part of the workout too. I cheered her on, making her feel even happier that she was participating. She held on to her big, fluffy bear the entire time, so he got a workout in too.
Tuesday got here and I was motivated to continue working out. Pilates was next on the list. But then I got an unexpected phone call: a job offer working from home. I had been looking on FlexJobs for nearly a month (a very reputable site for virtual jobs). I sought a work-from-home job because I wanted the flexibility and a chance to contribute to our new mission of getting completely out of debt. So at the time I would have been working out on Tuesday, I had to attend training instead. And I spent the rest of the week learning and working, and I am enjoying it!
That meant, of course, that I did not exercise again. I was sad about that. Really, I was. When I wasn’t working, I found myself being overworked with housework and the kids. There were times when I wished that we lived like that one tribe in Africa that lives in the nude so I wouldn’t have to do laundry anymore. Even though I did not exercise again, I did do good as far as my diet was concerned. I made myself protein smoothies, I snacked on mini carrots, cucumber slices, and celery with peanut butter. Hopefully this week, I’ll get to exercise more.
