As expected, my cold lasted a little more than a week. So exercise was not on my to-do list. I focused on getting better. Call me overly cautious, but my near brush with death has made me aware of just how precious my health is. And it was a cold that started my treacherous path to chronic sickness. I ignored my cold at that time, and continued on my vigorous exercise regimen that I was on. Because at that point, having a dream body was so important to me that I brushed off my cold as a minor inconvenience. That poor decision cost me dearly. That cold eventually turned into four illnesses – all of them affecting my ability to breathe – that nearly took my life. It took me six long months to recover after that. I had to regain mobility and strength. And I learned an important lesson: my health will always be more valuable than what I look like.
And unfortunately, my immune system never made a complete recovery. Therefore, it is easy for me to catch a cold, and it takes longer for me to recover from one. That is why I take it easy when I’m sick. So while I did not exercise this week, I did enjoy a fun family outing. This picture was taken yesterday. I am holding the newest member of our family, two-month-old Carly:

Can you tell that my arms look better than they did when I started? ;0) Each week in this series, I share with you what I am doing. And the good news is, it is working. I am now able to fit into my loose fitting clothing, such as this outfit I am wearing. But the more tight-fitting stuff I can’t fit into yet. When it came to picking a shirt to wear that day, I had to find one that didn’t expose my belly fat too much! I have to say – my abs are my most troublesome area to conquer. But I’ll get them.
Now that I’ve done a pretty good job of increasing my protein intake, I am going to start snacking more on fruits and vegetables. Yesterday I had a mad craving for mini carrots. So I’ll be headed to the grocery store today to get those. What about you? What small thing can you do this week to promote your future dream body?
