protein post Losing the Baby Weight Series: My Protein Shopping Trip

A sure way to start losing weight quickly is to increase your protein intake.  I learned this over the course of the three years that it took me to drop seven sizes.  Then, when my weight started to fluctuate because I had fallen off track, I discovered once again that if I increased the amount of protein I had in my diet, my weight would drop in a fraction of the time.  Needless to say, protein is my very good friend.

Most of the ingredients that you see are for my protein smoothies:

  • 1 frozen can Minute Maid orange juice – that way I can make freshly prepared orange juice when I need it.  One can makes 48 ounces of juice.
  • 2 pounds of strawberries
  • 32 ounces Dannon Light & Fit Vanilla Yogurt – one cup has 7 grams of protein.
  • 2 pounds Six Star Pro Nutrition Whey Protein Elite Seriesthis protein powder has 26 grams of protein per scoop.  I got vanilla cream flavor.  Protein powder tends to be expensive, so shop around for the best price.  Places like GNC or other specialty stores that sell supplements usually cost more.  I purchased mine at Wal-mart for $18.  I had a coupon that came out of All You Magazine, which dropped the price by $1.
  • 4 boxes of Zone Perfect Bars – Protein bars are a great way to have a snack on-the-go, or if necessary, a meal replacement.  If I don’t have time to eat lunch, I grab two bars and eat them instead.  It’s a much better alternative than not eating at all or worse, buying fast food.  These protein bars have 14 grams of protein each.  I tend to purchase whichever protein bars happen to be on sale.  I got four boxes (each box contains 5 bars) in the following flavors: chocolate mint, fudge graham, double dark chocolate, and chocolate peanut butter.

The protein bars and smoothies make excellent snacks.  A protein smoothie can also be a great meal by itself.  I made myself a strawberry protein smoothie for an afternoon snack, and it was so delicious!  I can already feel my body extinguishing fat cells.  Okay, well maybe not, but I did choose the smoothie rather than the Jalapeno Cheetos everyone else in my family was snacking on.  And for that, I am proud of myself.
