One of the things that makes Overeaters Anonymous a success is how they approach recovery from food addiction. Their slogan is “Just For Today.” The idea here is that you take one day at a time. If you can make it through today, chances are you’ll be able to make it through tomorrow too.
Have you set some goals? Do you know how much weight you want to lose or what size of clothes you want to fit in? Let’s say you are a size 14 and you want to be a size 7. That’s an achievable goal. That is, until you realize the work it will take to get there. Rather than thinking in terms of how much effort it is going to take to lose all of the weight, just think of what you can do today. Because today is what matters. Today you can do something to promote your dream body. Today is a new day. Which of these can you do today?
Just for today, I will drink more water.
Just for today, I will not skip a meal.
Just for today, I will forgive myself for not always being good to my body.
Just for today, I will Just Say No to sweets.
Just for today, I will walk for 10 minutes.
Just for today, I will not complain about how unfit I am.
Just for today, I will try a new healthy dish.
Just for today, I will be more open to making changes in my diet.
Just for today, I will try a new workout.
Just for today, I will have a positive outlook on my weight loss journey.
Just for today, I will dare to make my life easier.
Just for today, I will have nutritious snacks.
Just for today, I will write down what I eat and drink.
I will only agree to do these things just for today.
And tomorrow is a new day.
